Madison, August 9, 2017 – HealthConnect.Link, a Madison-based non-profit, was one of seven socially-minded entrepreneurial start-up projects selected to present at the Social Good Summit at Forward Fest.
Forward Fest, Madison’s flagship technology and entrepreneurship festival was started in 2010. It now attracts over 5,000 attendees over the eight-day long conference celebrating innovation and entrepreneurship. The Social Good Summit was added to Forward Fest to promote not-for-profits, for-profits, and cooperatives that promote positive social impact.
"The Social Good Summit was originally designed to ensure that positive local impact - especially as it relates to entrepreneurship - is valued and supported within Madison's entrepreneurial community," stated Alnisa Allgood, Founder and Executive Director of Collaboration for Good, Inc. "We felt that not-for-profit, for-profit, and cooperatives start-up that are social enterprises were being left out of the mix in Madison's entrepreneurial community. Forward Festival seemed an ideal place to start making a change. The goal of the Social Good Summit is to put socially conscious enterprises at the forefront, while still building up the Madison entrepreneurial community. These types of entrepreneurs are on the rise in Madison, and they are looking to grow and sustain our community, while also making it a better place to live. Their bottom line doesn't negatively affect the social good."
Over the past month, 25 social entrepreneurial projects participated in the Social Good Accelerator series, led by Amy Gannon at Edgewood College. The goal was to accelerate these projects through coaching, mentoring, training and gathering additional resources. Project leaders meet with other social entrepreneurs working on ventures in varying stages of development, learned from experts how to ‘pitch’ ideas, and received coaching and feedback, as part of this accelerator program.
Seven projects were selected to pitch their ideas at the Social Good Summit on August 17th. In addition to HealthConnect.Link, other projects that were selected include: Colorcoded, Everyone On Madison (Digital Equity), Just Bakery, Mindfulness for the People (Radically Re-imagining the Mindfulness Movement), Race to Destiny, and TIIN (Therapeutic Interactive Intergenerational Neighborhood).
The Social Good Summit will be held on Thursday, 17, from 9am-5pm at the Madison Public Library, 3rd floor. Tickets are available at https://socialgoodmadison.splashthat.com/
